Václav Havel Human Rights Prize 2020
Loujain Al-Hathloul
One of the leaders of the Saudi feminist movement. She has been detained on several occasions, sentenced and has been in prison since 2018. After a global uproar, Al-Hathloul was released from prison in February 2021, while her travel ban was due to expire two and a half years later. Her personal freedoms are constantly being restricted. On May 13, 2024, the Václav Havel Library joined the statement calling on Saudi Arabia’s authorities to immediately lift the illegal travel ban imposed on Loujain al-Hathloul.
