The Garden Party, Then and Now

Evening with the young makers of a short film based on Václav Havel’s first play The Garden Party. Distinctive in terms of direction and dramaturgy, the interpretation is a joint project of Academy of Performing Arts drama and film school students, led by director Kateřina Popiolková.
“Even a tiny cog can turn large gears if it finds the right spot. Havel’s play is chiefly about the unworkable nature of a system in which there is no natural turnover or division of power but rather horse-trading and conflict of interest,” say the young filmmakers.
The programme is part of the Václav Havel Library educational project Read Havel/Shoot Havel, www.cisthavla.cz, and originated as part of a series of programmes via which the VHL commemorated the 10th anniversary of the death of Václav Havel.
