A meeting with Ai Wei Wei

A talk with one of the most famous contemporary Chinese artists Ai Weiwei, who accepted the invitation of the National Gallery in Prague to the opening of the exhibition Zodiac Heads within the celebrations of its 220th anniversary. The director of the National Gallery Jiri Fajt, who will assume the role of moderator, and Sinologist Olga Lomová of the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague will discuss not only about Ai Weiwei's work, but also on the political and human rights situation in contemporary China. The talk is organized by the Václav Havel Library in cooperation with National Gallery in Prague and Charles University in Prague. The debate will be in English and it will be streamed with a Czech translation on the Czech Television. Free entry without reservation.

Ladislav Kudrna: In the Wild North: The Underground in Teplice, 1965–1985

Along with Prague, the North Bohemia region, especially Teplice, was a leading centre of the opposition community known by the later appellation of underground. The non-conformist community soon found itself in conflict with the communist regime. A period characterised as a breeding ground of the underground (a proto-underground) began in 1965; twenty years later, in 1985, there was a revival of the underground movement following the harsh repression of the early 1980s.
