Laureát Ceny VH 2013

V pondělí 30. září v půl jedné SEČ prezident Parlamentního shromáždění Rady Evropy Jean-Claude Mignon oznámil ve Štrasburku jméno historicky prvního laureáta Ceny Václava Havla za lidská práva – stal se jím Ales Bialiatski.

Ales Bialiatski (Bjaljacki) (Bělorusko)

Ales Bialiatski, běloruský spisovatel a absolvent Fakulty historie a filologie na Univerzitě v Gomelu, se od počátku 80. let minulého století zapojoval do národního demokratického hnutí. Již v dobách, kdy byl svět stále rozdělen železnou oponou, se stal zakladatelem Běloruské lidové fronty. Pomohl založit sdružení mladých spisovatelů, kterému několik let předsedal, a poté vstoupil do Svazu spisovatelů Běloruska. Později organizoval první demonstrace proti totalitě.

Tato činnost mu přinesla v roce 1988 uvěznění, což byl začátek dlouhé řady zatčení a zastrašování.

V roce 1996 za narůstající represe Lukašenkova režimu založil Centrum lidských práv Viasna. V roce 2007, tři roky po svém vstupu do Mezinárodní federace lidských práv (FIDH), byl Ales Bialiatski zvolen jejím viceprezidentem a stal se tak prvním zástupcem bývalých sovětských zemí, který byl kdy zvolen do Mezinárodního výboru FIDH.

Knihovna Václava Havla ve spolupráci s Nadací Charty 77 uspořádala k poctě historicky prvního laureáta Ceny Václava Havla za lidská práva ve středu 2. října jednodenní konferenci s názvem „Civic Society: Freedom Is Not To Be Taken For Granted“.
