The Strategie-31 initiative (CZ) and the Václav Havel Library are taking part in a worldwide expression of solidarity with Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Platon Lebedev and all political prisoners in Russia. Khodorkovsky, the former executive director of the company Yukos whose arrest occurred exactly 10 years ago, and his business partner Lebedev were sentenced to many years in prison in dubious trials. Their trials, which took place in 2005 and 2009 and saw the basic principles of the rule of law breached, are regarded as perfect examples of the Putin regime’s approach to those with different mentalities. Khodorkovsky’s correspondence with the writer Ludmila Ulitskaya and texts by him describing the Russian penal system will be presented in a non-stop “chain” reading. The Worldwide Reading for Mikhail Khodorkovsky was organised by the International Literary Festival Berlin. Special Guest: Natalya Gorbanevskaya. The Strategie-31 initiative (CZ) was organising the evening with the support of the Václav Havel Library.
