The perception of the book through the eyes of a book designer, exploring the creative process, the rules of typography, and the possibilities of breaking them. An introduction to the historical roots of books, from medieval manuscripts and the significant historical legacy of graphic designers of the 20th century, to the contemporary view of books in contemporary media.
Jana Vahalíková studied Book Culture and Typography at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design under Professor Jan Solpera. Since 1997, she has been a part of Studio Marvil. Between 2001 and 2015, she was the Art Director of TYPO Magazine. For the past ten years, she has focused on book production in collaboration with many publishing houses. Besides individual novel titles, she also works on book series: Edice AAA, Česká knižnice, and Edice moderní dějiny. A significant part of her work also consists of exhibition projects, author catalogs, bibliophilia, and art monographs for state and private galleries.
