Havel-Cleveringa Lecture – Prof. Dr. Petr Kopecký: „Political Patronage, clientelism and autocratization“

For the fourth time, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Czech Republic, in collaboration with the Václav Havel Library, is hosting a gala evening under the patronage of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Daan Huisinga. The event pays tribute to human and civil rights activists Rudolf Cleveringa, a professor at Leiden University imprisoned by the Germans, and Václav Havel, who bravely opposed the falsehoods of communism. This year's Cleveringa Lecture will feature Prof. dr. Petr Kopecký.
Petr Kopecký is Professor of Political Science at Leiden University and at CEVRO University. His main research interest are political parties and party systems in Europe, contemporary democracies and their challenges and political polarisation. He is co-editor of the journal 'East European Politics'. He studied Economics at the University of Economics in Prague and Political Science at the University of Manchester. He received his PhD from Leiden University. He was lecturer and senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield, and Visiting Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, the South African Institute of International Affairs in Johannesburg, and the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development in Accra.
The event will be moderated by Doc. PhDr. Petra Guasti, PhD., Associate Professor for Democratic Theory, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University Prague and will be held in English.
