The Free Academy: Jan Kysela

What, and whom, do constitutions serve? How did the Czech one come into existence? What influence did Václav Havel have on it? Has the constitution proven itself? What are its strengths and weaknesses?

Jan Kysela is a professor of constitutional law and political science. The head of the Department of Political Science and Sociology at the Faculty of Law in Prague, he also works as the secretary of the Constitutional Commission of the Senate and since last year he has been an advisor to the Czech president. He has written books on bicameral parliaments, the right to protest, legislative delegation, separation of powers and the field of constitutional theory.
