Daňa Horáková: On Pavel Juráček

The first print edition of O Pavlu Juráčkovi (On Pavel Juráček) – a masterfully written, readable book of prose – was published in 1978 in the Expedice (Dispatch) and Petlice (Padlock) samizdat series. The book was the basis for the German feature film Tag der Idioten (The Day of the Idiots), which in 1983 won the Deutschen Filmpreis in Gold award.
Daňa Horáková, a Charter 77 signatory, ran the Dispatch Series with Václav Havel from 1975. In 1979 she married Pavel Juráček and moved to West Germany. There she worked as a journalist and in 2002–2004 was the Hamburg minister of culture. She wrote in German, bringing out seven books of prose and journalism.
